AIU Certificate Programme in Leadership and Governance

Certificate in Leadership and Governance is designed for emerging leaders within various sectors. This program will develop your personal effectiveness and leadership capacity in the context of current structural and professional change in one’s profession. It will promote one’s critical reflective skills on leadership, change and partnership. It will advance the students’ knowledge of interpersonal communication, innovation, critical evaluation, informed risk-taking and problem solving, grounded on ethical principles and evidence-based practice of leadership and governance.

This Programme is designed to accelerate the development of promising senior public service leaders who need to broaden and deepen their operational insight, if they are to lead effectively in a complex and dynamic world. Specialized Certificate in Executive Leadership and Governance requires completion of 24 credit hours (6 courses).

Program objectives

  • To develop student competencies in the discourses of leadership and governance.
  • Apply leadership and governance theories in their practical leadership situations.
  • Account for various leadership and governance knowledge areas, skills and competencies and demonstrate the utility value of these in practical experience.

Emotional Intelligence in Leadership

This course examines the foundation  for emotional intelligence, emotional intelligence competencies, and skills, change management  with emotional intelligence, transforming organizations with emotional intelligence, stress & stress management with emotional intelligence, tools and strategies for improving one’s emotional intelligence, and tools and methods for measuring and improving emotional intelligence.

Styles of Leadership in Governance

Interface between leadership and governance, common leadership styles, using appropriate styles in different circumstances, leadership style as a leader’s approach to providing direction, leadership style as a means of implementing organizational plans, and leadership style as a means of motivating people, leadership styles and improved governance structures.

Foundations of Life and Mission in Leadership

Understanding the foundations of leadership, the moral foundation of leadership, four cornerstones: truth-telling; promise-keeping; fairness;  respect for the individual, building a strong foundation for leadership: self-awareness; learning agility; communication; influence,  exploring  experience as a foundation for the mission, exploring the  Bible as a foundation for mission, the Spirit in Mission.

Ethical Judgement in Professional Leadership and Governance
