The AIU Institutional Scientific Ethical Review Committee (AIU ISERC) is accredited by NACOSTI to coordinate, receive and screen external and internal research proposals from scientists and scholars in Kenya.

AIU ISERC is accredited to review and approve only SOCIAL SCIENCES.

Attention Masters and PhD Students/Candidates!

Kindly read the instructions below regarding ISERC clearance. For you to get the certificate of ethical clearance, you need to have defended your proposal dissertation. The guidelines for proposal submission as well as other related forms are attached herewith for your reference.

Kindly take note of the following:

The ISERC office only accepts electronic submissions. Physical copies of submissions are NOT ACCEPTED.
Once you download the relevant ISERC submissions forms, type the responses and convert the documents to PDF. Handwritten responses will NOT BE ACCEPTED. Attach the PDF documents one by one. DO NOT place all the documents in one PDF.
All proposals should have gone through the defense process and should be duly signed by the student(s) and supervisors before submission to the ISERC office. ISERC forms should also be signed appropriately by the Principal Investigator/Researcher (student). Documents without signatures will not be accepted.
Upon approval by ISERC Committee, students/researchers receive a letter of approval from ISERC and then (AIU students) proceed on to Graduate School for a letter of introduction before proceeding to obtain the NACOSTI data collection permit Click here
The ISERC Committee reviews the proposals within a maximum of 30 working days. If it is an expedited application, the turnround time is maximum 5 working days.
Should your proposal not be approved by the ISERC committee for whatever reason, you will be notified within the shortest time possible after the review meeting with instructions on what should be done.
Students should ensure that their documents are well formatted and proofread before submission.
