We are delighted to announce the appointment of Prof. John Chang’ach as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs and Research at Africa International University (AIU). Prof. Chang’ach brings to AIU an exemplary blend of academic excellence, research leadership, and administrative experience honed over decades of service in higher education.
Prof. Chang’ach holds a Ph.D. in History and M.Phil. in History from Moi University, alongside a Bachelor of Education (Arts) and a Diploma in Education. His academic career has seen him make significant contributions to teaching, research, and mentorship at leading institutions. Since his promotion to the rank of Professor of History in 2021, he has demonstrated unwavering dedication to fostering innovation and academic growth.
Prof. Chang’ach’s research footprint is both deep and global. With over 73 journal publications, 12 books, and numerous research grants under his leadership, he has advanced and mastered scholarship in history, education, and governance. In addition, he has spearheaded major projects such as the East and South African-German Centre for Educational Research Methods and Management (CERM-ESA).
His work has also extended into curriculum evaluation and institutional planning, including roles with the Commission for University Education (CUE) as an external examiner for leading universities.
Prof. Chang’ach’s leadership credentials are impressive and far-reaching. He has served in various senior roles, including Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor at Alupe University, where he oversaw critical aspects of academic policy development, research, student affairs, and resource management. Additionally, his contributions as Dean of the School of Education at Moi University and Director of the Technical Vocational Educational Training (TVET) program have equipped him with a robust vision for academic excellence.
Beyond academia, Prof. Chang’ach is a dedicated mentor and community leader. He has been instrumental in initiatives promoting educational access and excellence, serving on various boards and committees, including Maria Soti Girls Education Centre and Moi Girls High School. His expertise in strategic leadership has earned him accolades, including certificates from globally renowned institutions like the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and King’s AI in Education Laboratory. He is a member of the Anglican Church of Kenya, Diocese of Eldoret, St. Paul’s Lelmolok Parish where he serves as the Lay Reader. He is married to Sally and the Lord has blessed their union with four adult children, Mercy, Dennis, Sharon and Brenda.
At AIU, Prof. Chang’ach aims to advance a transformative agenda in academic affairs and research, fostering innovative programs, deepening global partnerships, and championing evidence-based scholarship and decision-making. His leadership will undoubtedly enhance the university’s mission to provide quality education, impactful research, and community engagement.
