World to Our Campus

God has brought the World to Our Campus

This past August, Africa International University welcomed government sponsored students. These new students offer an intriguing Divine opening for AIU faculty, staff and students to demonstrate the love and good news of Jesus Christ to them. Professor Anna Mosby sees great possibilities. She writes the following:

As the new semester drew to its beginning, I logged in to AIU’s online register for my courses. This academic year the number of students registered for the required university core course, Bible Interpretation and Study Methods, reached 250 of which fifteen are BTH students.

I admit my excitement at the opportunity to share the gospel and the Scriptures with the over 200 non-theology undergraduates. These students are bold, have no qualms about doing a course mate’s quiz (!), and have more questions about “contradictions” in the Bible than are concerned about knowing God. But they have given me a greater appreciation for the youth pastors among our BTH students, and have reminded me to be relevant in my teaching.

I have also sensed though that some of our BTH students appear overwhelmed by the influx of these liberal arts students. I cannot help but approach them with the challenge to mingle with their non-theology colleagues. I challenge them with the God-has-brought-the-mission-field-to-us line. I challenge my theology students and my colleagues to seize the opportunity, reminding them of Christ’s mandate to share the life-giving gospel.

I am pessimistic that I will remember all 250 names or faces, but our Father knows them by name. I am humbled realizing God’s opportunities are not bound by my limited ways or methodologies. This semester I feel so inadequate; it is beyond me, but I pray that I remain totally dependent on him for each class hour, and that the words spoken to each student will lead them to the Truth, the Way and the Life.”
