The AIU Biennial International Conference 2023 under the theme Contextualizing Peacebuilding: Seizing Opportunities for African Realities, was officially opened by the Principal Secretary Ministry of Interior and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo who in his speech emphasised that the role of peace in creating enabling environments and fostering socio-economic development must be recognized and encouraged.
He also expressed the need of having more of such initiatives like the conference that promotes an approach that leverages on a mixed set of expertise and skills that will increase accountability, strengthen ownership in our peace process and ensure local cooperation ,especially at the time when the government is at the tail end of reviewing Kenya’s National Peacebuilding Architecture.
The Ag. Vice Chancellor Prof. Joseph Kiplang’at challenged the scholars, peace practitioners and panelists in attendance that as they deliberate on contextualizing of peace, it’s also time for Africa continent to seek Africa -led solutions rather than being compelled to rely on the broader international community to solve her conflicts using foreign management models, programs and initiatives and hopes the conference aims to achieve these goals.
In commemoration of the commitment to Peacebuilding in Africa, the PS participated in a tree planting ceremony together with the Ag. Vice Chancellor Prof Joseph Kiplang’at, Ag. DVCAA Prof Nkansah together with other esteemed guests, faculty and staff.
