A team from the School of Computing and Emerging Technologies (SCET), led by the Dean, Dr. Jared Maranga accompanied by the Student Council Deputy President, and Graduate Teaching Assistants, visited JHub Africa at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to explore opportunities for collaboration in innovation, Artificial Intelligence, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation.
The team engaged with JHub Africa’s leadership and innovation teams, learning how they nurture student innovators, support multidisciplinary projects, attract industry partnerships, commercialize research, and develop solutions that address real societal challenges.
The discussions also explored several potential areas of collaboration between AIU and JHub Africa, including:
1. Student innovation and hackathons.
2. AI and Digital Transformation initiatives.
3. Joint research and grant proposals.
4. Industry partnerships and commercialization.
5. Innovation mentorship and incubation.
6. Student and staff exchange opportunities.
7. Capacity building in emerging technologies.
Our takeaway from the visit was the shared belief that universities should move beyond producing graduates with academic knowledge alone and instead cultivate problem solvers, innovators and entrepreneurs who create practical solutions for society.
