The Centre for World Christianity at Africa International University (AIU) will host the Tokunboh Adeyemo Public Lectures 2026, bringing together distinguished scholars and church leaders for a two-part conversation on Africa’s growing influence and contribution to World Christianity.
Themed “Africa’s Role in World Christianity,” the public lectures will explore the changing landscape of global Christianity and Africa’s increasingly influential role in shaping its future. As Christianity continues to grow across the Global South, African churches, scholars, missionaries and Christian leaders are making significant contributions to theology, mission, leadership and Christian practice worldwide.
The lectures will provide an opportunity to reflect on what the global Church can learn from Africa and what the emergence of a more diverse and polycentric Christian world means for the African Church.
Distinguished Speakers and Topics
Dr. Gina Zurlo, Lecturer in World Christianity at Harvard Divinity School and Editor of the World Christianity Database, will speak on:
“From Africa to the World: What the Global Church Can Learn from Africa.”
Her presentation will explore Africa’s contribution to the wider Christian movement and the ways African Christian experiences, perspectives and practices can inform and enrich the global Church.
Prof. Klaus Koschorke, Professor Emeritus of World Christianity at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), will address:
“Polycentricity in World Christianity: Implications for the African Church.”
His presentation will examine the increasingly diverse centres of Christianity around the world and consider what the emergence of a polycentric global Church means for African Christianity.
The presentations will be complemented by responses from Bishop Oscar Muriu and Bishop Calisto Odede, bringing African church leadership perspectives into the conversation and creating space for meaningful dialogue between scholarship and Christian practice.
