HEALTH SYSTEMS AND ENVIRONMENTAL GOVERNANCE
The Environmental Health and Governance (EHAG) Centre is committed to addressing the environmental determinants of health, with a focus on extreme weather events such as heat exposure and flooding, indoor air quality, and social-cultural factors affecting health. Our primary objective is to generate evidence that shapes policy, informs interventions, and supports mitigation strategies in response to climate change.
EHAG is currently leading a climate and health research project that aims to understand and model the impact of high indoor and outdoor temperatures on postpartum women and newborns. Additionally, we are exploring interventions to reduce indoor air pollutants, aiming to improve maternal, neonatal, and child health outcomes. In collaboration with universities, government agencies, and communities, we conduct evidence-based research that influences local and national policies.
We engage local stakeholders and policymakers to promote environmental governance through awareness campaigns and training. Our partnership with the World Resources Institute focuses on advocating for climate action, including community workshops. We plan to reduce carbon emissions and support global climate goals. We plan to expand our research and train young scientists to lead future environmental health initiatives, emphasising a circular and green economy.
